The Association was again blessed with a year in which many more things went right than wrong. We were again fortunate with the weather, which was often wet but generally free of truly nasty storms. Club membership hovered around the 100 mark, although pre meeting attendance was down slightly from the past couple of years.
We were able to continue programming an eclectic group of writers, editors, and other science fiction professionals as speakers. We thank all of our 1997 guests for their time and efforts.
A month by month list of our guests and Total Official Attendance appears in the next section. Attendance for the corresponding months in each of the past three years is shown as date, guest, 1997/1996/1995.

Our greatest area of progress was with our Bookstore Discussion Groups. We were able to launch four new ones and strengthen a couple of the established groups.
Early in the year, we began running events at the two largest Barnes & Noble stores in the area: a Computer Users Group in the Paramus Megastore on Route 17 South and a Media Tie-In Book Group at the West Paterson Superstore. Towards the end of the year, we added a second event to each store: a Classics of Science Fiction Book Group to the Paramus store and the Art of the Fantastic Group to West Paterson.
Another noteworthy bookstore activity was the flourishing of the Author Discussion Group. Highlight of the year was Bill Wagner's impassioned presentation of the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, but Ernest Lilley, John Radli, and Joseph Hong all brought knowledge and enthusiasm to their favorite authors. THAT'S SCIENCE FICTION!, our Paramus Borders Movie Group,
to be continued.
