Patrick LoBrutto spoke at the March 3, 1984 meeting of the Science Fiction Association of Bergen County. At the time, he was the science fiction and romance editor for Doubleday Books.

Publishing was a very different world in those days. Doubleday was an independent, family-owned business. The science fiction department issued a limited number of titles in hardcover which had a 90% sell-through due to the company's relationship with public libraries.

I remember him talking about the differences between science fiction and romance conventions (romance cons were the most fun) and how he and his colleagues would play Dungeons & Dragons every Friday afternoon at work (it was an informal team-building exercise).

According to my notes we had 25 people in attendance, including science fiction writer Jacqueline Lichtenberg. He kindly donated a number of boxes of books to the group.
