The Science Fiction Association of Bergen County met at the Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey on Saturday, February 12, 2005. Video distributor Dennis Doros of Milestone Films was the evening's speaker.

The Anime Associates and the Final Frontier met before the start of the meeting. The Anime group showed episodes of GENESHAFT in the Wesley Room. Vincent Carlucci moderated a Final Frontier discussion of Television Time Travel in the Fellowship Hall.

Dennis Doros, the co-founder (along with his wife, Amy Heller) and President of Milestone Films, was the evening's featured speaker. Milestone Films is a Bergen County based film company dedicated to the preservation and distribution of films of merit and artistry, whether old or new. It has compiled or distributed an eclectic mix of movies from the earliest days of film making to the present from the United States and abroad.

The company came to our attention because they had produced WINSOR MC CAY, THE MASTER EDITION, a DVD compilation of all the shorts produced by the comic strip and animation pioneer, Winsor Mc Cay. This DVD formed the centerpiece of the program, with four shorts, GERTIE THE DINOSAUR, GERTIE ON TOUR, THE CENTAURS, and THE FLYING HOUSE, shown in between two sessions of questions and answers.

Mr Doros also brought a variety of other Milestone Films he though would be of interest to our group, included the animated THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED and JOHN CANEMAKER: MARCHING TO A DIFFERENT TOON, as well as a two disc set containing the 1925 and 1929 versions of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

Our guest became involved in film in a very roundabout manner. His background was originally in art and he became the film guru of his school by default. His knowledge of artists and animators brought him to the attention of some people in the film restoration business and he was off and running.

Many of his stories had nothing to do with animation, but were fascinating glimpses of pioneering and largely forgotten film makers.

Our thanks to everyone who helped with the set up and clean up, especially Ann-Marie Brown.
