Meeting Notes:

Daemon Manx was born on January 15, 1967, the date of the first Super Bowl.  This was appropriate as his father was a high school coach ("Honey, can you hold it until half time?").  Daemon was a geek who had little in common with his father.

He saw JAWS when he was 9 and went home and wrote JAWS 2.

Music was his first love and he tried his hand at songwriting.  He was working as a roadie for a company that rented studio instruments.  The story of how he hit ("Who am I to argue with the Secret Service?") the limousine carrying Ronald and Nancy Reagan can be found in MANX-IETY.

Another real-life story in MANX-IETY was his appearance on Wheel of Fortune on December 20, 1999 which he related with gusto.  He won 16K and a new car.

A successful story needs to marry two separate ideas, otherwise it's too shallow.

Many of his stories are coming-of-age tales.

They are heavy on emotion.

Loves his stories make you laugh or cry.

He loved The Twilight Zone, Night of the Living Dead, and Vincent Price in The Last Man of Earth.

He had been writing for a long time but had never submitted anything.  He started indie publishing during the pandemic.

Abigail won a Horror Authors Guild Award.  It's about not judging a book by its cover,  It is available as audio book (ACX).

He had originally submitted the book to a small press which hosed him.

He started Last Waltz Press to publish Abigail thinking, How hard can this be?  He had to learn formatting requirements for publishing.  He started out using Word but has switched to Atticus.

He prefers atmospheric horror to slasher / splatter.

Daemon is his nom de plume.  He chose it to honor his passage from a long state of depression triggered by a bad accident.

He related a childhood story about the girls across the street who spooked him with their ouiji board.  Many years later he saw them and was given an apology and the ouiji board.

He didn't have a presence in social media until 2020.

How do you stand out from everyone else hawking their books?  You embrace social media, be honest and entertaining, and develop fans who like you and will buy your books.  He speaks openly about his depression and addiction problems.

Arcranium features four horror writers trapped in a VR/AI world.  The audio book narrator was familiar with Daemon's work and approached him to be the narrator.

When writing you need to know if you will be writing English or American.

Story:  Recalculating

Talked about the spookiness of walking through the abandoned Overbrook Asylum in Verona with his friends as a teen.

The Monochrome series is nearly complete.  This is a four book series which will be released in rapid order.  He wrote from 6:00 - 11:00 PM for six months straight.

Last Waltz has published / will be publishing Daemon Manx, Heather Miller, Diana Olney, Matt Scott, Mark Towse, and Jack Wells.

Monochrome is set in a world without color.
