The annual Pot Luck Dinner / Holiday Party of the Science Fiction Association of Bergen County was held at the Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church in Upper Saddle River on Saturday, December 13, 2024. Despite almost 10 last-minute cancellations, there was abundant food and a good turn-out.

One of the highlights of this event is seeing some of our infrequent members like Lonny Buinis, Angela Mallon, Melinda Randolph, and Larry Soria. Also thanks to non-attending members Fred Doot and David vun Kannon who sent cupcakes and humus respectively.

Main dishes included Turkey Meatballs (Charles Garofalo), Penne Pasta and Chicken in Vodka Sauce (Iulian Ionescu), London Broil (Pamela Webber), Fried Chicken (Irene Evans), Rotisserie Chicken (John Jurich) and Lasagna Rolls (Karen Chan).

Side dishes included a selection of Quiches (Bobbi and Thomas Bauer), String Bean Casserole and Stuffing (Philip De Parto), Vegetable Fried Rice (Roy Greenberg), Green Salad (Kathy Holusha), Waldorf Salad (Steven Herr), Sesame-Peanut Noodles (Caryl Neufeld), Macaroni-and-Cheese (Randie O'Neil), Sweet Potatoes (Jeni Spiewak), and Acorn Squash (Patricia Nash).

Appetizers consisted of Cold-Cut-and-Cheese Platter (Angela), Vegetable Platter (Jim Spinosa), Fruit and Cheese (Debra Matofsky), and Home-made Bread and butter (Richard Herr).

Desserts included Apple Pie (Greg Roman), Blueberry Pie (Lonny), Indian Pudding and Ice Cream (Pam), Cinnamon Rolls (John Upton), Cookies (Kathy / Jacqueline Moroz), and Cupcakes (Melinda).

Phil supplied coffee, milk, soda, juice and drinks. Roy brewed tea. This is not a complete list of everything that was brought.

Little Andrew and Anthony delivered Christmas Cards from grandmother Irene. Melinda showed off her jewelry designs. Iulian handed out cards about his e-zine, FANTASY SCROLL. We showed Christmas episodes of THE RED GREEN SHOW as well as cartoons during the evening.

There were conversations about every conceivable topic: Shakespeare, art, politics, ecology, grandchildren, and occasionally science fiction and fantasy.

Lots of people helped with the set-up and clean-up, but Kathy seemed to be everywhere. She lacked only a tiara and magic lariat to pass for Wonder Woman. Our thanks to everyone who helped make the evening a success.
