.....Film critic Dennis Sueling was the evening's guest. Mr Seuling was kind enough to fill in two days before the meeting when our originally featured speaker was unable to make it.
Mr Seuling is the film critic for THE VILLADOM TIMES, an independent newspaper serving a number of towns in this area. He has reviewed for other New Jersey publications, for the New York City Board of Education, and does a weekly on line review column. He has tought High School classes on film in New York and his reviews appear on Amazon.com.
Dennis Seuling became a fan of Universal monster movies from watching them on television as a child. This led to FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILM LAND, Saturday Matinee Double Features, and eventually to more mainstream tastes.
He became a New York City high school teacher in the 1970s and received permission to create a class on Film History. It went well and led to classes in Film Making, Film Appreciation, and Horror and Fantasy Film, as well as his stint as film reviewer for the Board of Education, and ultimately to THE VILLADOM TIMES.
He talked about the process of how he reviews a film, favorite films (both genre and non genre), favorite film makers, over rated and neglected films, and the mechanics of the Hollywood publicity machine.
Mr Seuling was a fun guest with useful things to say, and there was a lot of feedback from the audience. Anyone wishing to be added to this weekly film report can email him at dendrac@aol.com.
