The April 14, 2018 General Meeting of the Science Fiction Association of Bergen County was held at the Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. A pair of past Guest Speakers, editor / publisher Neil Clarke and fantasy author Ed Lazarelli, joined Kate Baker for the event.
A J Bartholomew led the Writers' Space Salon discussion of Breaking Writers' Block. Pamela Webber led the Ice Nine general discussion which included conventions, old television series, and movies old and new.
Kate Baker is the Executive Director of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America. She is also the Podcast Director and nonfiction editor for CLARKESWORLD MAGAZINE, as well as being an ebook and podcast story narrator. Our speaker also writes and is a musician.
Ms Baker grew up as a TV / movie / video game geek but was not terribly active on the literary side until a friend asked her if she would like to read a story he had written. She said, "sure," enjoyed the work and presented him with a recording of the work. He was impressed with her narration and told our speaker that she should do this professionally, which started our guest on the road to ebook / podcast narrator and Podcast Director for CLARKESWORLD.
