The following account is reprinted with permission from THE STARSHIP EXPRESS Copyright 2000 Philip J De Parto:

There was a considerable amount of uncertainty surrounding this meeting. Our originally scheduled guest canceled about a week before the event. This meant that Philip De Parto had to simultaneously work the phones to make sure we had enough people for dinner to satisfy our agreement with the restaurant, line up a replacement program (which was not put to bed until the night before the meeting), and work on the newsletter.

The Duck House insisted that we dine from a buffet, an edict resisted by some club members. The buffet consisted of tea, white rice, vegetable lo mein, egg rolls, General's chicken, beef with broccoli, string beans and vegetable dumplings. The $ 12.50 per person charge included tax and tip.

Everything wound up surprisingly well. The buffet format simplified the timeliness of serving, and the uniform price made collecting the money a breeze. Please let Phil know if you would like to do this again next summer.

Our guests were George Ann Scrabo, Paul Scrabo, and Richard Scrivani. This was the second appearance for the threesome at an Association meeting. They had been guests in February 1986 when they showed THE HELL WITH HELICALS, an homage to James Bond. That feature length video depicted the struggles of a valiant band of secret agents headquartered in the bowels of Rockefeller Center who struggle to safeguard the broadcast airwaves against those who would deprive all red-blooded Americans of the right to watch free television.

The trio now produce FRONT ROW, an interview show dealing with a number of aspects of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. The show has appeared on an independent station in Pennsylvania. They are searching for a home for the show on a cable station.

FRONT ROW has a very polished look for a show with no budget. The threesome are professional film editors. Mr Scrivani handles the on-screen duties. The Scrabos handle lighting, sound, camerawork, etc.

They showed two episodes of the show. One episode focused on 1950's science fiction movies and blended film clips with interviews with Kevin (INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS) Mc Carthy and Universal film authority Tom Weaver. The other was the first of a two part interview with cool ghoul horror host Zacherley. In between the two shows, we ran the HARDWARE WARS Special Edition video.

The three talked about episodes they had already shot, as well as plans for future shows. They explained how they handled certain technical problems posed by producing a show on a budget of zero.

A fun time was had by all.
