Despite a torrent of rain of near biblical proportions earlier in the week, the June 10, 1989 S.F.A.B.C. club picnic at the Yeager's home came off without too many glitches.
Although an attendance of 14 (plus two babies and Mr & Mrs Y plus dogs) is nothing to brag about, it was twice what we had last June and suffered from weather uncertainty, a delayed newsletter, and a competing birthday party for a club member.
Among those who stopped by were Dan Adler back from upstate New York, Nancy Cucci in from Huntsville, Alabama and Shiela Orick who has finally settled into Rahway, New Jersey.
At one point, rain seemed imminent. Robert Hepperle alertly dashed to his car and pulled forth his umbrella of rain banishment. Robert explained that it never rains when he has this umbrella with him. He opened it up and sure enough, the rainclouds blew away.
Dan Adler brought some games of strategy and deduction with him and at various times entertained Elyse Adams, Shiela Orick, Robert Yeager, Tony Pawlak and Robert Hepperle.
Nancy Renee Cucci-Pietruska (a.k.a. Goo Baby) took a group of adults for a walk. Nancy Cucci, Susan Toker, Elyse Adams, Shiela Orick, Phil Duran and Phil De Parto spent about an hour in the park's playground on swings, monkey bars, see-saw, etc.
Everyone who came was very generous with their food donation, so no dues were collected. No club business was conducted, so raffle tickets for the bookstore gift certificate will be available at the July meeting.
Robert Yeager gave the traditional tour of the house for those who had never been there before. After the barbecue had been cleaned up, the two Phils, the two Roberts, Dan and Anthony went to Cool Scoops in Hawthorne for ice cream.
The S.F.A.B.C. expresses its thanks to the entire Yeager clan, especially Mr & Mrs Y, for putting up with us.
