Few Fans Fazed by Feb Frost
Ignoring the icy gusts of arctic winds--heedless of the threat of monster blizzards--scornful of the 4,000 or so "me, too" fans who lemming-like, attended the Boskone--and completely oblivious to Valentine's Day celebrations--26 hardy club members turned out to hear Jim Freund, the Bard of WBAI, on February 14.
Jim regaled the unexpectedly-large turnout with the unexpurgated history of his HOUR OF THE WOLF radio show, and told many amusing tales about his radio guests, who included such SF greats as Harlan Ellison, Norman Spinrad, Barry Malzberg, Samuel R Delany, Harrison Ford, Ben Bova, Fred Pohl and Isaac Asimov.
The monthly door prize was won by Phil Duran. Charles Garofalo made popcorn in the kitchen by a method best described as Old Stone Age, using little more than an open flame and a few kernels of corn dropped by a local squirrel, (Good, though!) Alan Reid displayed a beautiful print titled "Amadan" by one of our members, the talented Lissanne Lake (rumored to be hiding under a pile of blankets until the spring.)
One script and several offers of assistance were given to Jim Freund, who took them under advisement, and the meeting broke up around midnight.
