The Peking Duck House was the site of the Association's General Meeting on Saturday, July 14, 2001. Artist Rowena Morrill and writer Doris Vallejo, who collaborated on the art book, THE ART OF ROWENA, were the featured speakers. Most of the group had dinner at the restaurant before the meeting started. Although some members regret the reduced variety a buffet offers, it does simplify the logistics immeasurably. Anyone who has suggestions or complaints is asked to call Philip De Parto as soon as possible.
After dinner, Rowena Morrill gave a slide show of her work, answering quests both during and after the screening. She stated that her goal was to depict an image without drawing attention to the technique. She takes pains to remove signature footprints like obvious brush strokes so that the viewer sees the image as if it had just appeared there with no evidence of and artist.
There was a break at the conclusion of the show, and then Doris Vallejo joined her. They talked about the process of putting together the book and various aspects of the collaborative process.
Those present were able to see the images as a slide, a print, a book reproductions, and in three cases, as an original painting. Many were delighted to purchase an autographed copy of the artbook.
