Scene 3.17 - A Smack In The Face Of Science
EST: EXT. Tellusia - Afternoon
(CLARKE is leading SIMAK across a spooky landscape, carelessly trudging forward, not caring if SIMAK is keeping up. It gets darker and darker from here.)
CLARKE
Mr. Simak, these lowlands seem to have a layer of light-emitting fog, keeping the ground below it at a steady, sixty-nine degrees Farenheit. I must make note of this phenomena and take a small sample with me for later analysis.
SIMAK
Er, I hope-a you know-a what chure doin’ there. We should take the high-road, sir.
CLARKE
(Disappearing into the fog:) Fascinating.
SIMAK
(Line delivered like he couldn’t hear him:) What was that, Mr. Clarke?
CLARKE
(Faint:) I said, it seems that this is some sort of nesting layer, for a particular life form...
(SIMAK goes in, pulling out his blaster.)
SIMAK
Mr. Clarke?
CUT TO:
(CLARKE stands before an egg, like in Alien. He is looking back over his shoulder and doesn’t see it opening up until he turns, then he leans in to peer inside and wham!)
CLARKE
I said, I found a nest of eggs -- a life form unlike any ever seen on Earth- whup!
SIMAK
Mr. Clarke? Mr. Clarke? Mr. Clarke!
MS: CLARKE on ground.
(CLARKE’S helmet looks like its been punctured and sealed; again, like in Alien.)
