Scene 1.06 - The Party
EST: INT. Bunny’s Penthouse - Morning.
(Blender drinks are aloft and someone just said something very funny and sweet.)
BETTY
To Bunny!
(Pops a pill into her mouth and toasts BUNNY with her drink and chases the pill with a shot of Mezcal.)
ALL
To Bunny!
BUNNY
Aw, thanks girls.
(Pops a bitter pill and drinks it down.)
BOBBIE
Happy birthday, Bunny.
BRANDI
We love you, Bunny.
BESSIE
(Tilting bottle:) Looks like we finished off Betty's Mezcal chasing down those horse-pills.
BUNNY
I got more...
BAMBI
Yeah, thanks for the worm. (Burps.) Hey, I thought Femiphren was supposed to be pink with blue specks, not blue with pink ones. There's no fake raspberry taste either.
BRANDI
Yeah, and what about the little flower-shape? These pills are shaped like little footballs.
BETTY
Well, look. Remember how the bottle used to have the little pink and blue flowers stamped on it? Now they're pink and blue dots. See? The label's changed. They must have changed the pill, too. Like, they musta gotten sued for looking too much like someone else.
ALL
(As if that explains it:) Oh.
BONNIE
Hey, here! I still got my empty bottle in my purse.
BESSIE
Girl, you got everything in that purse.
BONNIE
Here it is.
BETTY
Yeah, they are different! This one's got yellow writing and this one's got white. And there did used to be flowers on the label. The ingredients look the same, 'cept this one says it was bottled in New York, and this one says R-V-N -- what's that? R-V-N?
BARBIE
Republic of Viet Nam.
(Bunny opens her wall-sized liquor cabinet, pulling out two more bottles, one of tequila, one of Mezcal.)
BUNNY
(Distractedly:) Where?
(They all stare at her. Is she serious?)
BETTY
Uh, like, Vietnam?
BUNNY
Oh, Vietnam! I thought you were talking about some other place.
(The girls laugh. It must be one of BUNNY'S "blonde moments." They seldom occur in the life of the ingenius, fair-haired girl, but they've been known to happen to her -- even if no one really had an actual term for it in 1969.)
BUNNY
Are you girls laughing at me?
BONNIE
We're not laughing at you, we're laughing with you.
BUNNY
Okay, then I won't get upset.
BRANDI
No, we wouldn't want you to get upset on your birthday, Bunny.
(BRANDI takes a second, blue pill, chases it with a fresh shot, then chases it with her Margarita. Since the cramps are still coming in waves, the others also deduce that a second dose is necessary. The others follow suit and pop a second pill. Someone lights a pretty joint.)
