Scene 2.13 - Chaos
EST: EXT. Motel - Night.
(PERCY, SHARON, SARAH, PANDORA, ROADIES and VARIOUS MOTEL GUESTS are hanging out in the motel parking lot smoking cigarettes and wondering about the power failure.)
SHARON
Looks like the whole block is down.
PERCY
Nah, look! That funeral home has lights on-
PANDORA
So does that building over there-
SARAH
And that gymnasium, they got power-
PERCY
Strange. Thunder and lightning, but no rain.
SARAH
Not yet, anyway. We’re in Kansas; screwed-up weather is the least of our problems.
(Screams from across the street.)
SHARON
Hear that?
PANDORA
What?
(More screams are heard, louder, suddenly CHARITY bursts from the funeral home’s front door, leading a bleeding, limping PAUL. They run from across the street to the small crowd gathered in the parking lot.)
CHARITY
(Screaming:) Help me!
SARAH
Oh my gosh! Look!
(The group rushes over to a blood-soaked CHARITY, who is completely hysterical. The motel guests and ROADIES rush to PAUL. People get on their cell phones, ad lib, etc.)
SHARON
Calm down! What’s going on?
(An explosion sounds from about six blocks away, at the armory.)
PANDORA
What’s that?
CU: PERCY
PERCY
(Looking toward the explosion, under her breath:) Bobby...
