Burying Veterans:

VRChat Updated Their Trust and Safety Policy

After a few days since the beta got closed, VRChat created a post on Medium in which they talked about the changes regarding VRChat’s brand new “Trust and Safety” system they just added to the main client.

According to the latest announcement Tupper made on the “VRChat” Discord server, the beta client got re-opened last Saturday, so anyone could download it in order to test new features once again.

One of the biggest changes in the system is the removal of the “Veteran” rank, which at some point became thought of as redundant, either because VRChat was afraid of splitting their community too much, or because some of the developers didn’t even get this rank in the first place.

However, another issue left many experienced content creators unsatisfied with the outcome, as it turns out the legacy animations are being removed from VRChat. As it was explained by LoneEevee, one of our regular users, “Legacy animations are being removed due to high exploitability.”

“We are aware that some avatar creators use Legacy animations for various edge-case solutions where a non-Legacy animation might cause issues with the animator,” VRChat mentioned in another Medium post. “However, almost all cases where a Legacy animation is currently used can be worked around by using a non-Legacy animation, but we wanted to inform our community regardless so that there is no mystery about it.”

Apparently, Ron also replied to several people on the server, including error.mdl who said that the new system should provide users with the ability to disable dynamic bones on other people’s avatars, such as SeraRelm’s, for example. “It is by an order of magnitude the least performant thing you can do on an avatar (apart from IK, but that's kinda necessary for VR users),” he said on September 24th.

Later, Ron replied, “That’s because another system is in the works… It’s not like we forgot or don’t know.” Right now, one of the Canny posts regarding the ability to block dynamic bones is marked as “In Progress”.
