This week, something unthinkable happened. Ghoster, also quite well known as the owner of the “VRChat Traders” Discord server, published secret information regarding future VRChat updates.

“I bring news from the beta channel: next SDK update will let you mark avatars as ‘private’ so only your account can use that avatar ID, rendering the avatar ‘theft’ hack pretty much useless,” Ghoster said in his message where he also mentioned everyone on his server. “All current avatars you have uploaded when that SDK releases will be set to public so just re-upload them if you want them to be private."

According to Ghoster, there’s another strange thing involved in all this. Apparently, as far as he said, some of this information was brought to him by a Discord modification for the one and only official videocassette recorder server... For some reason. We really don’t know if VCR has to do anything with our platform whatsoever, but it seems that Ghoster was convinced he could rely on the source due to his statement that he shared the same Discord server with a VCR modification at some point.

However, despite the fact the news got spreaded all over the community in mere moments, the original message got removed within less than half an hour after it was published in the “VRC Traders” Discord server.

The message shared above was never meant to be public in the first place because it seems it can’t be confirmed officially. Therefore, in order to maintain the situation less public, we decided to share this edition along with the news after VRChat received its latest update, the details about which you may read in the other article of this week.

The rumor goes that the VRChat development team didn’t expect the outcome, and they never confirmed the statement on public. Nonetheless, if the message a mysterious modified videocassette recorder told us was true, it probably doesn’t necessarily mean the security issues will be gone completely, as it looks more like the system is simply going to get more complicated for obviously important reasons.
