This week, a user known to most of the VRChat community as Iris_ai (@iris_aiai on Twitter) stated that she achieved a number of at least 2000 users in her friend list.

It all started when Iris came to the Japanese channel on our official Discord server and said, “I have too many friends, and now I can’t see my friend on the friend list.” She also mentioned that her friend could see her as a friend at the same time.

Lately, we’ve been having too many bugs and other technical issues in VRChat to count. For example, GiveMeAllYourCats said that he also had problems with his VRChat friend list, “I have had some people come up to me and ask me why I deleted them from my friends list, this has happened four times already, and I never removed them.”

However, Iris seems to have encountered a rather unique situation. In fact, the number of her friends could be way higher. “It could be about 2000 people,” Iris said in response to Ruuubick who decided to help her, “I don’t know the exact number of people, but it may be even larger.”

During our interview with Iris, she mentioned that she’s been playing VRChat since early March 2017 and that her time spent in here is over 1900 hours. When we asked her why she kept adding more and more users as friends, she replied, “I got worried about it only in the end. I thought it was all right to be friends with all the people I met. As the number of users is exploding, there is a performance issue and I cannot increase the number of my friends, but I think that everyone in VRChat is family.”

Since we decided that Iris is also one of the most experienced and well-known members of our community, we asked her which period of time was the best for the social platform itself, and she said that “VRChat is always the golden age,” according to our translator who (almost) successfully passed the first two Japanese tests in Duolingo.

“Before the huge increase in the number of users, everyone was a friend, so I enjoyed it,” Iris continued. “Despite the growth of users, of course it's fun. I think there is also going to be a golden age in the future of VRChat.”
