Future at Your Fingertips:

VRChat Adds Valve Index Support

Tupper’s hands. LOOK AT TUPPER’S HANDS, YOU MERE MORTALS.

Even though VRChat still hasn’t fixed their IK system, recently, they pushed another update which adds the Valve Index controllers support to their platform.

The developers mentioned certain details regarding the update in the changelog, including a new feature that allows Index users to toggle gesture overrides with their controllers, and with that being said, it’s important to know that all Index hardware has been sold out on the same day the pre-orders started, and while some users should get them by the end of June, other may have to wait until August or even later, even if they order the product right now, which is why VRChat could use your feedback in case you ordered Index.

The controllers — early prototypes or which were known as Knuckles — allow users to interact with virtual environment by using all five fingers on each hand, so, technically, in order to perform VRChat’s default gestures, as it seems, you don’t necessarily need the gesture overrides if you’re using Index, but you may still use them to combine actual gestures with more creative things, about which you may want to read more in VRChat’s latest Medium post.
