This week, one of a few active people in VRChat since its early days got accused of collecting other users’ personal information that might have been used to compromise their safety.

Just a few weeks ago, someone called “Ruby Rose” created their own network called “VRChap.” According to Ruby’s first statement, the project was supposed to be for a smaller community within VRChat, just like VRCat, a place that many of you probably heard of by now.

As far as we know, the first mention of VRCat became public in a commentary provided by Kneesox who claimed to have been working that time, although it seems that Kneesox is still banned for disobeying the law and isn’t getting out of jail any time soon.

However, this week, the word got out, and we found out that VRChap’s website was used for retrieving other users’ personal information without their agreement, even though there’s a clear message saying that “they have no affiliations with VRChat Inc. and they don't store any data regarding passwords.” Aside from that, the creator of VRChap got accused of causing DDoS attacks against VRChat’s moderators, probably because of the investigation leading to the final conclusion.

WhyNotRight, one of Ruby Rose’s old friends in VRChat, said that he never expected Ruby to do anything like that. “S***, I didn't hear about this. But no, he normally always followed the rules, as far as I've ever seen him do at least...” WhyNotRight said. “Yeah, I liked him as well. And for as long as I've known him he has never done anything like this. Or even said anything about it.”

But the real truth is, this is a completely different “Ruby Rose.” The real Ruby Rose who shares the same name in VRChat said, “Hey, I dont own VRChap. It is a mrs ruby rose that owns it.”

Therefore, Ruby Rose, one of our active users since early 2017, was mistaken for a different person because of a name of a famous anime character, so it’s safe to say that he remains unbanned. For now.
