Handy Invention:

User Develops Shader to Hold Hands

by Pan Diman

Haï~ and Lyuma.

Although it may be considered impossible to hold parts of other people’s avatars with the current IK system in VRC, Haï~ managed to create a workaround with his brand new shader.

According to the creator, it was designed for dancing with Lyuma, however, his work may be applied for a large variety of things, as its application may be used for more than just hands.

“It works by reprogramming a very simplistic IK system within the shader code in order to animate a fake, third arm...” Haï~ explained. “In order to locate the hand of someone else, I am using a trick which I learned from someone else, using a realtime black light that is crafted to have no performance overhead.”

The shader can be downloaded for free at https://github.com/hai-vr/handholding-shader-ik, and Haï~ claims to be looking forward to eventual modifications done to his work.
