90 FPS in 4K:

Huge Performance Improvements

The Great Pug with RTX on” presented by Romthirty (probably using the new client).

While working on the new “Unity 2017” build for their software, it appears that the VRChat development team did something unintentional and accidentally made VRChat look like an actually good game.

On December 5th, Tupper made yet another announcement about the open beta client, “Hello, [everyone]! We've just updated our Open Beta for VRChat 2018.4.3. This is the version of VRChat where we upgrade to Unity 2017.4! We don't often do pings for announcing Open Beta, but we are this time— that's because the release of this Open Beta signifies that we are set to release the Unity 2017 Upgrade of VRChat (2018.4.3) next week!!” In this message, Tupper mentioned links to the changelog and their Medium post published on November 17th.

According to multiple beta testers, they could reach up to 91 FPS on average in most VRChat worlds they went to, which is considered a huge improvement, compared to the occasional 20 FPS that made VRChat almost completely unplayable in VR. As some of the oldest users in the community said, the client could barely handle 50 FPS since one of the very first incoming user flows after PewDiePie made his first video about VRChat.

“I remember one day I noticed I had 15 FPS in my Courtroom, and I never really enjoyed VRChat as much as I used to ever since,” Pan Diman commented on the performance issues that are still haunting the “5.6” build.

We’re reminding you that you should re-upload your worlds with the “2017” SDK if they include mirrors, realtime global illumination, baked lighting with enabled lights, animations affecting rotation, or crunch compression on your textures, and if you have the last two enabled on your avatars, you should reupload them as well. As far as we know, you’ll be able to overwrite content using old IDs once the “2017” client goes live.
