What’s West of Quest:

VRChat’s Quest for Quest

Tupper and Ron talking about Oculus Quest.

For the first time in almost 6 months, VRChat broadcasted another Twitch stream after their last time in December in order to let the users know about their successes with Oculus Quest.

Now that VRChat supports Quest, the platform that was originally not intended to be used with Quest will be shared and divided between both Quest and non-Quest users from now on. As you may know, Quest content creators are required to follow Quest-related requirements to be able to upload Quest-ready content for Oculus Quest, however, even though Quest users won’t be able to visit non-Quest-only worlds, non-Quest clients may still go to Quest-ready worlds without Oculus Quest.

Some non-Quest content creators decided to optimize their non-Quest worlds to make their non-Quest projects compatible with Oculus Quest and provide both Quest and non-Quest users with cross-platform play so that every “chad” non-Quest user has an ability to make the Quest experience at least somewhat social with the pathetic 8-player limit that is required for Quest in order to maintain stable experience with Oculus Quest. For instance, Owlboy made a different but also very minimalistic variation of his most popular world in VRChat, turned it into a generic mirror simulator world, and called it “The Great Pug - West”, possibly because about 80% of people who managed to afford Quest around the globe live in its Western part.

And yet, with the new update that brought new features to VRChat due to the Oculus Quest release, some users reported having severe issues with body tracking, possibly even without Oculus Quest, which, as it was called by Mr. Brunswick, a well-known non-Quest user, turned out to be “absolutely awful.”

In response to the post he retweeted, developers who made the VRChat client for Quest encouraged both Quest and non-Quest users to report bugs on vrchat.canny.io, whether they own Oculus Quest or not, and let us know that the Quest-ready IK system is still being worked on.

Regardless of the fact that VRChat now supports Quest, it doesn’t mean the platform is now targeted only at Quest users. Or at least it shouldn’t be in case Oculus decides to release Oculus Quest S or Oculus Quest Pro.
