Users Turning Into Vehicles

Last week was full of surprises for both users and developers, and one of such things was the ability to place chairs on avatars in Unity and upload them as potential in-app vehicles for other players in VRChat.

This feature appeared as a result of an incident after the developers made a few adjustments and eventually made it look like a scientific experiment gone wrong, but with positive results, as it seems that the majority of VRChat enjoys having this ability.

According to Ron Millar, one of the representatives of the VRChat team, they didn't expect it either. “Chairs going in was an error. There will be a design for them later that's better. Right now without safety measures and proper design you could be trying to pick something up and end up sitting in some avatar chair you didn't intend,” Ron said last Wednesday/Thursday (depending on the time zone) in response to Fionna’s questions. “But they'll be back. It's something I want to add myself. They're fun.”

The latest implementations of this feature were extraordinarily well-received in the community, although the development team wasn't sure if they should've allowed it at first, despite their own mistake. They claim to have different opinions on this because of new players who haven’t figured out that they need to respawn in order to get off the chair.

Apparently, the chairs should get patched any day now. The details on when it’s going to happen haven’t been officially mentioned yet, but people are aware of this, and some users don’t want their favorite unexpected feature to be gone for too long. WarGrey left his comment on this as well, “Chair on avatars are gonna get patched? Please don't. I have a chocobo avatar and I want people to get on it.”
