The impossible seems to finally become a reality, as we finally have an official statement that custom scripting is on its way to everyone in VRChat after five long months of multiple delays and rumors.

“We've selected a small number of people to begin testing, which we may expand as time goes on,” hackspanner said. “We will be reaching out to those people when the time comes. There is no longer an open application process. But be assured that the beta-testing means that PlayMaker is just around the corner for everyone.”

On top of this, it seems VRChat team decided to take an example of Overwatch developer updates and publish their own every few weeks to let the community know what’s going on behind the curtain.

The most anticipated part of the upcoming updates is, without a doubt, PlayMaker support, which means that VRChat is going to let everyone use custom scripting very soon. “I'm just waiting for PlayMaker. I have 90% of the code in C# already. It’s just going to be more easy to port the code than rework it in VRC script,” said nobody on our Discord.

“The ‘visual programming’ aspect is just a bonus for learners and those not familiar with Unity. What PlayMaker is really about is being able to script in-game addons (almost like Garry's Mod) in order to make maps 10000 times cooler,” ggqf explained. “Imagine a zombie survival map with NPC's that run at you, and try to route to you. Or a working casino.”

But this is far from the whole list of things that are yet to come. As an example of upcoming tools and features, a camera has been shown to the public with certain streamers, including Kimple, Pokelawls (AKA Amish Doink), Woops, as well as a few others. The rumor is, they’ve already got access to the camera in order to tease their viewers before the next huge update.

If you watched the first developer update mentioned earlier, you should know about a new world called “Coldfront.” The VRChat team mentioned that they are experimenting with King of the Hill and they’re going to keep updating it more and more.
