Believe it or not, we got actual breaking news! Due to the latest growth of its community, VRChat is suffering from multiple issues regarding users’ worlds and avatars.

One of the most bizarre problems VRChatters are dealing with at the moment, is the so-called “anime plague.” One of the most brutal examples was mentioned by Zarniwoop. “Owlboy was turned into an anime princess with FPS-murdering particle effects,” Zarniwoop said. “With overrides. It literally crashed Itvarana once.”

He explained, “Avatars uploaded with not the current latest SDK can be overwritten by other users’ avatars.” Zarniwoop mentioned that the reason of this could be naming collisions on the server end. “Currently vaccinating all of my dungeon avatars. All 41 of them,” he said. To watch video footage of people fighting against evil forces of anime, feel free to use the QR code shown on your left.

We‘re getting more and more similar reports from different users every day. Our lead editor Pan Diman commented on the situation as well, “Something like that happened to me during the Halloween event when the image of my vampire news reporter turned into an anime girl. But this time it‘s way more serious. Currently, I’m making my next world I‘d like to make public soon, but last time I uploaded it, my world turned into an anime avatar that might be a furry too.”

On the same day, Afromana, one of the victims of the Animepocalypse, said, “Due to a bug in the SDK, avatars could be overwritten by others’ at random. My Star Destroyer became anime.” Later, he also added, “Most avatars became anime really.” For now, to prevent the epidemic, make sure to re-upload your old avatars with the latest VRCSDK.
