The Meetup Is a Lie:

Sunday Meetups

Officially Cancelled

The first messages regarding possible cancellation of the weekly event appeared several weeks ago on VRChat’s official Discord server. On December 10th, VR Pill said, “Most likely going to be calling off Sunday Meetup tonight.” Later that day, he spoke to the public, “Sunday Meetup is cancelled as we are experiencing server issues today and I am unable to upload the meetup room. We'll see you next week and visit those rooms then!”

However, the truth is, there was no “next week.” On December 17th, VR Pill made an announcement, “While we work on adjusting events to our higher traffic, Dev Meetup, Sunday Meetup, and European Meetup will be cancelled until further notice.” Some users, including Lucifer MStar and MisterJerome, suggested starting unofficial meetups instead, to which VR Pill responded, “Sure, I encourage you all to have an unofficial meetup!”

We’re also reminding you that VRChat developers announced their plans on hosting a New Year’s Eve party, but we don’t have any confirmed details at the moment, especially with the latest server issues. “From what I know, the party will probably start a little before the first timezone hits 2018,” Gallium said, “and will go on until the whole planet has rotated into the New Year.”

It’s hard to confirm this at the moment, because the provided information came to us from VR Pill during the last Sunday Meetup, back when we had less than 2000 concurrent users online, and now we’ve got more than 5000 (you can view the latest statistics by scanning the QR code). However, it seems that if the party is still going to happen, VRChatters should be celebrating it in special worlds, including the new “Times Square New Year.”

Last week, Ron, one of the creators of VRChat, said, “In the New Year, I'll probably get into a private instance with some invited guests and do a stream to give new people and everyone more visibility of what we have on our minds and roadmap.”
