At long last, the Hunt has finally ended. After almost 7 months of stalling, waiting, and postponing new stages, the finale called “The Showdown” was conquered, and now it’s open to everyone in a public world.

The first four teams who finished the previous stage and got to participate in the Showdown were “Aegis”, “Able-Bodied Dumplings”, “Boxmob”, and “Three and a Half Men”, represented by Oblivious, んなあぁ (nnaaa), LandonAero, and DrEvilsin.

However, despite the task being to defeat Mr. Whiskers, it was discovered that the culprit behind the events was VR Bill who appeared to be the evil doppelgänger of VR Pill who travelled back in time with Gunter and probably got murdered in the end. No, we are not making this up.

According to Tero, one of the creators behind the Hunt, “Pill's evil doppelgänger, VRBill, will have thrown future VRChat into chaos, which is why the two arranged the Hunt to collect the lost weapon pieces and restore order to their reality.” As usual, you can watch the recording on Gunter’s channel.

And even though the first person to complete the challenge in 15 minutes and 29 seconds was Oblivious herself, the “great prize” was friendship all along, which means there was no reward after all. Except maybe the winner got to add the team behind the Hunt as her friends, at least then it would make sense. Nonetheless, several players tried beating the time challenge, and so far, the record is 8 minutes and 45 seconds by Mentor Knight.

“A huge thanks goes to the incredible development team which came up with the story, pushed the boundaries of VRChat by making these crazy maps and created such an amazing and ambitious community,” Tero said in the last announcement. “Thanks to all the players for sticking with us until the very end. We hope you liked the puzzles. This officially completes the Hunt for Mr. Whiskers.”

Now that the event is finally over, Spookality submission forms just went live, and they are going to remain open until October 24th, 11:59 PM PST (25th, 6:59 PM UTC), for anyone interested in Threadless gift cards.
