The Battle for VRChat Was Just a Rumor

Last week, according to the rumors, the infamous hacker known to the world-wide web as 4chan threatened to wipe out half the population of VRChat. Eventually, this information caused panic in multiple communities.

The original source of information got out last week, and it included warnings about potential raids on VRChat that supposedly should’ve happened on May 17th. However, there were no massive reports regarding any hacker attacks whatsoever. “People were spreading misinformation on VRC Discords is all,” Korbo explained. “There was at least no 4chan raid organized.”

Soon, after the raid proved itself to be completely fake, this topic became more popular as a subject of comedy, even though just less than a week ago a lot of people in VRChat were taking it seriously.

On May 20th, Niggel Thornberry said, “The entire time I knew 4chan, he only ever had one goal: to wipe out half the universe. If he gets all the crash guns... he can do it with the snap of his fingers, just like that.”

Whether 4chan planned an actual attack or not, the truth might have been left undetermined, but the most plausible theory seems to be that 4chan simply doesn’t care about VRChat or raiding the platform in the first place.

According to our community, “4chan users” hang out in VRChat as well, so the right thing to assume would be that they’re not interested in ruining their own experience, and the fact that a few of them might have discussed invading the platform certainly doesn’t prove that all of them have the same plans and opinions. As GoldFox expressed in his own words, “4chan is just a chaotic force of nature, sometimes good, sometimes bad.”

Fortunately or not, even if 4chan tried to raid VRChat, it looks like there’s no actual proof of that, and who knows, maybe FBI got to them faster than our moderation team. Either way, it’s a complete mystery to the public.
