As it was promised, on December 31st, another version of Times Square was released and published by VRChat in collaboration with some of the most prominent content creators in the community.

Unfortunately, it appears that there was a significant delay before the world got released, as multiple Australian users said it wasn’t out at the time they hit 12:00 AM on January 1st, which most likely means that Sketchu, TruNoom, h*****games, HeyImBee, and many others didn’t get to see the countdown in VRChat on New Year’s Eve.

Nonetheless, despite the issues, Times Square managed to hit a record of over 4,000 concurrent users. According to some people, it reached the number of around 4,500, which, almost surprisingly, is a completely new achievement for VRChat.

Of course, it also means that the total number of concurrent users in VRChat grew as well. According to the Steam Database, the client has been launched by at least 10,994 users at the same time, therefore, considering hundreds and thousands of our Oculus consumers, it is safe to assume that we most likely hit the peak of over 11,000 unique users.

Times Square wouldn’t have become what it is now if it weren’t for the talented people who provided the world with new posters and references. However, some of them were excluded from the credits, as it appears that certain users responsible for the advertisement they submitted included inappropriate elements, such as the “Church of Christian Knights” logo and the autism awareness symbol, neither of which were something VRChat wished to represent as a company. Needless to say, their work got removed completely.

And the other thing many were generally unhappy with, was the “advertisement” by Pokelawls, which is simply a frame taken from the VRChat trailer that also seems to be the biggest in the main area, regardless of its poor appearance.

Despite the obvious lack of effort, Pokelawls was mentioned in the credits anyway, but, even though he definitely played a huge role in promotion of VRChat, we are uncertain if he is ever going to come back.
