The infamous hacker known as 4chan strikes again. This week, VRChat was invaded by his or her cybergoons who caused massive panic attack by spreading false rumors about the possibilities of users using illegal software.

The most unusual thing about the latest attack was the appearance of fake moderator warnings. On the next day after that happened, VR Pill, one of the staff members working for the VRChat team, made an announcement on their Discord server, “We are currently investigating reports of users receiving custom messages in game. If you receive a custom message and find your session unresponsive, please restart VRChat. Also, if possible, send us an email with the details to moderation@vrchat.com. Please provide any applicable information, including pictures, videos, and output logs.”

Besides that, users reported receiving fake ban messages for no obvious reason. Eventually, it was stated the ban messages were false as well, and even if they were real, those who don’t work for VRChat don’t have access to moderation tools used for banning bad actors in the app. Tupper, another employee of VRChat, posted another announcement just to remind that most things in VRChat are still under control, “As a reminder, if you receive a custom warning message with text other than ‘A moderator has warned you... etc.’ it is a false message. If possible, please send us an email to moderation@vrchat.com with your output logs, screenshots, and videos (if possible). Only official VRChat moderators are able to ban an account.”

There are several other rumors going around, usually saying that hackers can steal your data or turn your fan into a bomb, but the majority of users are skeptical about this. Today, one of the senior chat moderators on Discord Gallium said, “Evidence or it didn't happen.”
