Meme-ingful Traditions:

Meme and Steam Awards

Gamers, rise. As you may know, VRChat was nominated for “VR Game of the Year” on Steam, and there’s only a couple of days left before the voting gets closed, so you can still do your part.

Apparently, VRChat is fighting for the title along with (or rather against) developers of Beat Saber, SUPERHOT VR, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, and for some reason Fallout 4 VR. During the New Year’s Eve celebration, we wanted to ask Tupper for his opinion about Steam Awards, but decided not to after he literally said, “I'm hungry. Someone buye tacos.”

And while VRChat is being nominated in Steam Awards, it is worth saying that this year’s VRChat Meme Awards are back with the second coming, which now officially makes our “Meme Awards” tradition annual.

If you remember last year’s polls, VRChat Meme Awards were made for the old community who got to experience the rise and fall of VRChat during late 2017 and early 2018. However, ever since the boom happened, the community has never been the same. After the sudden user base growth, it was extremely hard to keep track of everyone’s avatar uploads. Therefore, Pan Diman, the official host of VRChat Meme Awards, considered a possibility that he might have had to put a stop to the tradition without bringing it back for the second time.

“I thought VMA could’ve been so much better than it turned out last year, but I’d say it went quite well anyway,” Pan Diman said. “On the other hand, I can’t tell if we had too many or too few memes this year, it’s really hard to tell which ones were the most popular.”

According to Pan, last year’s nominees were mostly based on pop culture, but this time, instead of nominating just 20 popular memes, the host asked the community about their favorites, and now it seems that the list of nominees will include only VRChat-related memes from now on.

Make sure to fill out the form presented below to vote for your favorite VRChat memes of 2018, and if you want to send tacos to Tupper, please feel free to email VRChat at hello@vrchat.com or contact him on Discord.
