After months of waiting, VRChat officially released “Avatars 3.0” (also known as “AV3”), a system that changes the way VRChat avatars work by a substantial extent, as well as brings new changes to VRChat’s UI and full-body IK.

The latest SDK supporting AV3 allows creators to apply more adjustments to avatars and respective features, including brand new AFK animation management, more flexible options with gestures, improved eye tracking and point of view position editing, and even certain details describing the avatar’s personality.

Due to the major update, most avatars might need a number of new/updated components provided by VRChat’s SDK, and plenty of them might need to be reconfigured from scratch, however, for the most part, old avatars uploaded with SDK2 will function as well as usual.

AV3 is considered to be more advanced than its predecessor due to the heavy use of animator controllers and animation layers, virtually making limitless* possibilities of avatar creation a reality. Some examples of avatars made with AV3 may be used in a world called “Avatar 3․0 Beta Hub.”
