On the guidance period of Friday, December 13, the Masterman high schoolers congregated in the auditorium to spectate a holiday showcase that included presentations from several student and teacher groups. The atmosphere was warm and inviting; small red bows were taped to a black curtain and fairy lights were strung across the risers that sat behind the performers. The showcase began with an impeccable lip-synch by Ms. Waber, Ms. Diffenderfer, and Ms. Gentlesk of the classic “All I Want for Christmas is You,” originally sung by Mariah Carey. Pep Squad then proceeded to present several synchronized dances, with some performances including their younger peers from the Middle School Pep Squad. Sweet Sixteen covered Fleet Foxes’ “White Winter Hymnal” and, shortly after, they unexpectedly (but beautifully) sang “Sweater Weather” by the Neighbourhood. Senior dances with Madison Tyler (12-4), Kayla Gibson (12-2), and Chidinma Onukwuru (12-3); the co-captains of Pep Squad, as well as Ebun Adebonojo (12-1) and Oona Ashraf (12-1) followed.

Dressed in coordinating white-and-red ensembles, Beckett Sanderson (12-4), Max Mester (12-3), Lucas Jaeger (12-2), and Noah Bradley (12-1) performed a fascinating dance number to “Jingle Bell Rock” as a tribute to an iconic scene from Mean Girls. We were also blessed with a lively cover of "Run Run Rudolph" by Chuck Berry with vocals by Mason McAvoy (12-3) and piano, drums, guitar, and bass accompaniments by Yende Mangum (12-3), Isaac Finn (12-2), Sebastian Goldstein (10-1), and Willem Cousineau (11-1), respectively. The series of presentations concluded with several more choreographed dances and bows. What a festive assembly!
