What are some tips you would give to someone on how to manage their time well in high school?
Prioritize what really matters to you and don’t be afraid to say no to things or people that don’t align with your goals. That was honestly such a hard lesson for me because I wanted to do everything at once in high school. But you only have so much time and energy, and learning to focus on what and who matters most makes all the difference.
Also, I swear by Google Calendar. I use it for literally everything, and I’d recommend everyone find some kind of planner or app that helps them stay organized. It saves you so much stress.
What inspired you to partake in Student Government?
"I was super shy all throughout middle school, so when I got to high school, I decided I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone. One thing led to another, and somehow I ended up in SGA for four years! I’m really grateful it worked out that way because I’ve learned so much, from planning events to understanding how much actually goes into keeping our school running. Seeing all the things we plan come to life is one of the best feelings ever."
Who has inspired you the most here at Masterman? What piece of advice has a teacher given you that you will never forget?
"My biggest inspirations are definitely my best friends: Angelina, Lorina, Marianne, and Xin. They’re all such incredible people. We’re really different in a lot of ways and have totally different dreams, but we’ve always been there for each other. I’ve learned so much from them, both inside and outside of school. As for advice, back in 5th grade, Ms. Donahue used to spend twenty minutes every day teaching us how to plan out our agendas. She always told us to make to-do lists and plan our month ahead, and that habit has stuck with me ever since. I still think of her every time I color-code my calendar."
What do you plan to do after high school?
"Go to college, hopefully! I’m so excited to move out, start fresh, and experience living on my own. I really want to travel and study abroad too. I think it would be amazing to see more of the world while I’m still in school."
What is your favorite memory at Masterman? What is your favorite school event?
"My favorite event has to be International Day. My favorite memory is probably freshman year’s International Day because it was such a fun mix of SGA and DOSA. Seeing everyone representing their countries, wearing traditional clothes, and sharing food from all over the world was so special. Winter Formal comes in a close second, though. It’s always such a fun night."
What was the most challenging part/subject throughout high school?
"Definitely Physics. Every time life gets stressful, I remind myself that at least I don’t have a Physics quiz coming up, and suddenly things don’t seem so bad. That said, I love Mr. Lebold!"
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
"Honestly, I spend almost every free second I have either out with my friends and family or on FaceTime with them. But when I’m not doing that, I love reading, watching movies, and cooking with my mom, although I somehow always end up burning at least one thing."
