Growing up and growing old, life is filled with unforgettable memories, and high school is just a small footnote in a larger, bigger story. However, some nights leave an eternal memory, the kind that people find themselves reminiscing about long after they have passed. Among these nights and rare moments are the Junior and Senior Proms! Masterman presents the Junior and Senior Proms – two distinct yet equally cherished nights filled with fun and smiling faces, celebrating youth in fancy, elegant attire.
On Friday, April 25th, Masterman features a Red Carpet VIP Gala Junior Prom, held at the Old City Marriott - the typical location for Masterman's Junior Prom. Juniors savor the moment by taking many photos at the send-off held in the 18th-century garden on Walnut Street. “The sendoff was something I wasn’t used to because obviously we don’t do those for other dances, and it was just overall a way bigger deal than anything else,” noted Gabrielle Garcia (‘26). Behind the scenes, much work was put into the dance by the planning committee and the Junior Sponsor, Ms. Waber, ensuring the night was enjoyable for everyone. She included small details by making VIP press passes instead of typical place cards, which added to the fun of walking the red carpet at the entrance. Each table was named after an award show, such as Oscars Nominees, Emmy Nominees, and Tony Nominees. Ms. Waber commented, “The most rewarding part about organizing the Prom was watching the students celebrate and enjoy themselves!” Individuals like Aniesse Mezieche (‘26) expressed, “It was very memorable… It's your Junior Prom, and you look forward to that your whole life, so it was more enjoyable [than previous dances].” The dance allowed the juniors to come together and celebrate a special moment before their senior year starts.
Following Junior Prom, the seniors got together one last time before graduation. On Monday, May 19th, the Seniors' send-off took place at Washington Square Park, where they took many pictures with their friends and family, before heading to the Downtown Club, where Prom was held. Joceyln Goldstein (‘25) stated, “The venue was really cool, we rode up on an elevator to a high floor where appetizers were being served, the bar and photo booth were also in this room.” Individuals were able to get together, have fun, and dance, Goldstein noting that, “As soon as the room with the dance floor opened, I was there the majority of the time, and there was a group of people moshing.” The combination of excitement, anticipation, and celebration created a truly unforgettable night, wrapping up high school but symbolizing the beginning of new adventures to come. Sophia Brunelli reflected, “This year, I think everyone is recognizing how close we are to not seeing each other again, which made it more fun and sad at the same time — bittersweet if you will.”
Overall, the two dances provided memorable moments, creating a lively atmosphere all throughout school. As Sophia Sali (‘28) voices, “It was nice to see the juniors and seniors celebrate. The Promposals were especially unexpected. However, it’s sad to know that they’re going to be leaving soon.”
