What college are you planning to attend?

I’m currently deciding between Penn State and Pitt.

What has been your favorite moment at Masterman High School?

When the boys’ swim team won the pub freshman year, it really was a special moment for me since I was able to come in and make an impact. It continues past freshman year too, because I was captain junior and senior year. Junior year was really a struggle, because we only had like 6 boys in the team, but we gave it our all and did the best we could. Senior year was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a team before. The pool our meets are usually held at broke at the beginning of the season, so we had to switch over to Drexel’s pool, and it was a huge upgrade. We were able to have every school compete against each other at the meets and our team had a shot at winning the championship. Sadly, we fell short at the end, but being able to lead a team and really act like a captain was something I’ll cherish forever.

How did you get into swimming?

My swim story is actually pretty funny. I did club swim for two years in middle school for a really competitive team but quit because it was too hard. When I got to high school, I wanted to see what swimming in the pub was like. It was so much easier than club swimming. I actually got to enjoy the sport instead of it feeling like a job.

What is one of the things that you will take away from the swim team experience?

Something I’ll take away from the swim team is the team aspect. Every year the team always gets super close, and it’s like a family within the school. I love the connections I’ve made throughout the years, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

What majors are you looking at?

Sports medicine and physical therapy. I might even take it a step further and go into sports orthopedics. I don’t know for sure yet. I’ll just have to do what I’ve always done and see where the wind takes me.

What is your favorite class?

AP [US Government] is my favorite class. I’ve always liked history as a subject, and that hasn’t stopped this year. Mr. Gilligan is probably a top five teacher… he’s really good at teaching this hard course and making it interesting. I haven’t gotten over a 60% on probably any of the tests this year, but it’s still a good time, and I have a pretty acceptable grade. If you are thinking about taking AP Gov, I’d 100% say: ‘do it’.

You’ve played Boys’ Volleyball throughout high school. What is your favorite volleyball moment?

My junior year we were really bad, so we were just goofing around and having fun. It’s always fun being a part of a terrible team, because then you can just focus on playing the sport for fun and enjoying the time you have with the rest of the team.

If you time traveled back to the start of high school, what would you have done differently?

If I’m being completely honest I’d say I would have tried harder in school. I’ve enjoyed my time in school, and I don’t regret any of it, but it would be a lot easier if I really applied myself in school. I had like a 2.0 GPA freshman year, and that was really hard to pull up. Either way, I’m happy with the choices I’ve made, and I think everything has worked out fine.

What is your favorite TV show?

I watch a lot of Regular Show. I’ve probably rewatched the entire show at least four times over. It’s a pretty terrible habit. My brain is like a smoothie now.
