Maia Keenan Senior Spotlight

Rylee Porter 24'

As a two sport athlete and captain, (soccer & softball) what would you say has been your favorite and least favorite part of participating in athletics at Masterman?

My favorite part is probably the community and bonds I have made on each of the teams. Going to practice and games with the same people everyday, you get to know everyone pretty well. Specifically, some of my favorite memories from soccer have been on the bus to games, singing with my bus buddy. My least favorite part is probably the trek out to our practice fields.

Editor’s Note: It’s me. I am the bus buddy.

After tearing your meniscus and then later tearing your ACL in sophomore year, how were you able to bounce back and compete in your senior year?

I went to a lot of physical therapy, like twice a week for two years, so I think I really worked hard to get back to sports. I also tried to stay connected to the teams while I was out by going to practices and games. It was definitely scary playing in some of my first practices and games for soccer when I came back from my injury, but I got back in the swing of things. I started travel softball indoor training a few months ago, and I’m really excited to get out and play a game.

What are you most excited for in your college life at Villanova?

This is propaganda.

Okay fine. But seriously, what are you most excited for in college life?

I think just meeting new people. As much as I love everyone at Masterman, it will be a different experience to have to make new friends because that isn’t something that I have been forced to do in a long time. We’ve been with the same people for 8 years so I guess I’m looking forward to seeing new faces.

What has been your favorite memory of your time at Masterman?

I think probably Mock Election. Even though it was really stressful, it was cool to actually be the ones running the campaign. I’ve always watched the seniors before us do it, and it was finally our turn.

You are an Irishwoman at heart and at culture. Tell me more about that. Do you have any Irish song recs for us?

My dad is really big on our family’s history and Irish heritage, and has always had Irish music playing in the car. Some of my favorites are Celtic Symphony and Our Day Will Come.

Tell us about your family. What role have they played in your life?

My family supports me in everything I do. When I really want to do something, they always find a way to make it happen. I have an older sister and a younger brother that are probably my best friends.

If you could meet one celebrity in this entire world, who would you choose?

Spongebob but not like the voice actor like actually Spongebob.
