2022's Newest Flavors: Girl Scout Cookie Reviews

Henry Margasak (11-4)

Every winter, the Masterman cafeteria gets just a tad louder for a few weeks when our resident Girl Scouts make their rounds. At this point, it's more than likely that Masterman students have given more money to the US Girl Scouts Association than they have to the Masterman HSA, any cultural organization, and all of the class sponsors, combined. This year’s selection also saw more than a few new flavors, which have made the Girl Scout Cookie season that much more special. So, in the spirit of Valentine's Day treats, Voices presents a buyers guide to all the new flavors, so Masterman students can avoid the pitfalls of boring cookies and enjoy this special holiday the right way.

Adventurefuls

Adventurefuls have probably made the biggest splash of any new cookie, and could even rival Thin Mints as this year’s bestseller. Adventurefuls aren’t the boldest cookie in the world, and feature a pretty simple combination of caramel and chocolate. They’re actually strikingly similar to the Caramel Delite’s, another hugely popular variety, but are free of the irritating texture of the coconut flakes and are considerably less sweet. I find that Caramel Delites can sometimes be too sugary. They aren’t chewy like the Delites, either, which I most definitely prefer. The chocolate is definitely the primary ingredient and the caramel is way less offensive than in some other cookies, and they’re quite tasty overall.

Lemon-Ups

A recurring theme in 2022’s new varieties is a glaring similarity to another kind of Girl Scout Cookie, and that might be the most obvious with Lemon-Ups. I found them pretty much identical tasting to the Lemonades, which I already thought were artificial tasting and belonging to a pretty low tier of cookies. These feature a cool print on the side (pictured above), which gives them a few extra points, but the similarity to a previous cookie and the bland taste left much to be desired.

Toast-Yays

There isn’t much to be said about the Toast-Yays. They taste pretty much exactly the same as the shortbread cookies, and the advertised French-toast flavor is essentially non-existent. These also aren’t super widely available, and I had to go through multiple friends-of-sisters-friends to get my hands on a box. They taste pretty good but aren't worth the effort it takes to get them, and people as thin-stretched as Masterman students are better off just getting some Shortbreads.

Toffee-Tastic

These weren’t really similar to any Girl Scout Cookie I’d eaten before, and I’d say I really enjoyed them. They were more chewy than crunchy, and weren’t too sweet. They were basically like a shortbread cookie but with a little more butter, and bits of toffee sprinkled in. Definitely nothing crazy but would be worth a try, if it wasn’t for limited availability.

Caramel Chocolate Chip

I couldn’t get a box of these in time for this article, which was really disappointing. None of my sister's friends thought it was worth it to buy any of these. I’ve heard great things, but I can’t give a fair review based on other peoples’ opinions.
