You were the recipient of the Most Spirited award last year for Spirit Week. What has been your favorite memory on Blue team and what will it take to win this year?
My favorite memory of Spirit Week was winning sophomore year with the seniors. I got to sit up front with Naomi, Jianwei, and Jackie and it was so much fun to celebrate with them as we won after so much hard work and dedication. It was a lot of fun working with people I’ve been friends with for the past two years and I’m very grateful for that time. And honestly I don’t think it will take much to win this year. White team doesn't seem that dedicated outside of one lip sync. They haven't bought a lot of shirts and there hasn’t been a lot of hype around it. I think it will take a collective effort from the seniors and the freshman and sophmores to step up for Blue team to win.
What is your favorite snack to buy from the cafeteria vending machines?
The jalapeno chips without a doubt, but the Cheez-Its have been so good lately. When you buy the jalapeno chips you can’t buy from 305, you have to buy from 307, because the ones in 305 are very stale.
You have been a Peer Counselor and a HAAMS mentor since freshman year. What would your advice be to working with middle schoolers?
To have a lot of patience. So many of the middle schoolers are hyper and have very bad attention spans, so you have to be very patient with them. Sometimes the lesson might not go exactly how you predict it, or how it's written, but you have to power through and let them have their moment to speak up about anything. They are actually very knowledgeable and have a lot to say and can be very helpful about learning how to move through an experience. So definitely just have the patience and listen to what they are saying and you’ll get something meaningful out of it.
You were voted biggest gossip in the yearbook. Is this how you hope to be remembered?
Yeah, honestly. I’m joking. It’s one of my biggest faults. I didn’t even realize I was that big of a gossip and that’s probably the problem. I will admit though, I do know a lot of people’s secrets. But I feel like that’s because people confide in me, not because I go out of my way to seek them. So I think these allegations are false, but I’ve been willing to change. I’ve been gossiping less and talking about people less. I only gossip about those who are deserving. I could add a few names.
As someone who seems to be everywhere but at home, what has been your favorite travel destination during your time in high school?
That’s true. I honestly missed a lot of functions. I didn’t go to my first Winter Formal until this year because I’ve always been traveling so I’ll take this with a heavy hand. My favorite place to travel was definitely Dubai. I got to go with a bunch of my cousins and it was such vibes. I’ve been there before but getting to experience it with people outside of my immediate family was a lot of fun. We got to hit so many different places that I didn’t go to before and I’m really excited to go again.
Throughout high school you have managed countless social media accounts such as the Blue Team Instagram and @everybodyhatesmehaad. What has been your favorite social media trend?
So actually I don’t have any social media on my phone right now except Be Real and Block Blast. My favorite trend was definitely the Utah fit checks. I definitely hit multiple of those last year and if you want to see a few check out @memethefudge – new handle. Also should we revive @everybodyhatesmehaad? I’m asking seriously. I think we should.
What is your biggest goal after you graduate?
Never work on the yearbook again. I don’t really have any set career paths but I would hope to work somewhere in environmental health. I’d hope to keep a good character for the rest of my life. We never know what people are going through, and I would hope in my lifetime that I would never judge people and lead to people feeling bad. That’s my life goal.
What has been your biggest challenge as Editor-in-Chief of Yearbook?
Our class theme was very different than ever before, the seniors chose to base our yearbook on the book series Diary of the Wimpy Kid. It made it difficult to think of new and fitting ideas but it also forced us to branch out and do things differently than previous years. My goal with the yearbook was to make it so nostalgic, that in 10 years you shed the same amount of tears (if not more) you shed when you first received it. I think we really go to do that by making the theme something that was a part of a lot of our childhoods. A huge credit goes out to Jia-Ming for bringing the pages to life and I really hope everyone likes it!
