The success of the Masterman swim team couldn’t have come at a better time. Their achievements have shed a light on the program during the equivalent of a solar eclipse: the convergence of the federal government's recent policy shifts that look to flood schools with funding and the school district’s massive surplus and desire to make investments in our school buildings.
Dr. Watlington, joined by public education advocate and Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, announced in a joint press conference that $50 million dollars would be directed to Masterman to fund the construction of an Olympic sized pool in the basement of the school.
Construction is set to begin over the summer, and will be completed by the start of next school year. “My goal is to support the well being of every public school student, and to make sure they have access to the same resources as their private school counterparts,” noted McMahon in a press conference late last night.
“The eight-lane, 50-meter pool will join the gymnasium, giving Masterman two state-of-the-art, best-in-class athletics facilities. With our plans for a tennis and racquet center poised to transform the rooftop, Masterman will soon be the envy of the PIAA,” noted Athletic Director Mr Roache.
