Original Day Family Cookbook

Ingredients:

    • 6 quarts chopped red and green tomatoes

    • 8 medium onions

    • ½ pound sweet peppers

    • ½ pound hot peppers

    • 1 cup salt

    • 4 cups vinegar

    • 7 cups sugar

    • 2 teaspoon cinnamon

    • 2 teaspoon cloves

    • 2 teaspoon celery seed

    • 2 teaspoon mustard seed

    • 2 teaspoon tumeric

Directions:

Chop tomatoes, onions, sweet peppers, and hot peppers or put through meat grinder. Pour salt over mixture. Let stand overnight. Drain well.

Bring mixture to a boil and add remaining ingredients. Simmer for 1 to 1-½ hours. Long enough to absorb most of the liquid. Seal in jars while hot.
