Peggy's favorite chocolate cake recipe

Ingredients:
½ cup boiling water
2 ounces chocolate (cut in pieces)
Dry Ingredients:
1 cup sifted cake flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon soda
¼ cup shortening
Liquid Ingredients:
¼ cup milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 egg, unbeaten
Directions:
Pour ½ cup boiling water over chocolate in mixing bowl and stir until melted. While the chocolate mixture is cooling, measure the other ingredients, then mix the cake in the easy 2 step way.
Step 1: Mix Dry Ingredients with Chocolate.
Sift flour, sugar, salt and soda into mixing bowl containing chocolate mixture. Drop in shortening. Beat until smooth -about 100 strokes. Scrape bowl and spoon, and mix well.
Step 2: Add Liquid Ingredients; Beat and Blend.
Add milk, vanilla and egg and beat until smooth. Again scrape and mix. Pour batter into a 8x8x2 pan which has been rubbed with shortening. Bake at 350o for 35-45 min.
