Original Day Family Cookbook
From Katie Maxim Stinchfield
My mother used to make these at Christmas time. -FSD
Ingredients:
3/4 cup dried figs
3/4 cup pitted dates (I sometimes substitute apricots)
3/4 cup walnuts
2 tablespoon grated orange rind
½ tablespoon lemon juice
Confectioners sugar
1 cup pecan or walnut halves
Directions:
Grind figs, dates and walnuts using finest blade of food grinder, or I had good luck using my food processor, not so messy. Work in orange rind, lemon juice and enough Confectioners sugar to make a firm mixture. Shape mixture into a 15 inch long roll on a surface sprinkled with Confectioners sugar. Cut into ½ inch thick slices, and coat slices with Confectioners sugar. Top each slice with a nut half and place on wax paper to dry for 2-3 hours or until firm. Store in a tightly covered container in refrigerator for up to a month, or freeze for up to 6 months.
