In strawberry season a daily dessert

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
3 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoon sugar
½ cup shortening (for fewer calories, cut to 1/3 cups)
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup milk (approx.)
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening into flour mixture until like coarse corn meal. Add beaten egg and enough milk to make a dough that can be easily handled. Roll or pat into a round ½ inch thick. Arrange in greased layer cake pan. Bake at 450o for 15-20 min.
Shortcake Filling:
4 cups strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, bananas with strawberries or raspberries, raspberries with peaches, raspberries with diced oranges or diced pineapple, or applesauce with cinnamon or nutmeg added
