Notes: Do NOT just cut the cabbage into whole chunks as it will not soften much even if you steam it first and then bake for 45 minutes. I think the best thing is to not use the inner part of the cabbage unless you really cook it a lot. Must use the outer leaves. If don't want to wrap, try dicing up the cabbage into small squares and cooking in sauce. Or try pre-cooking.
Making meatballs with Impossible, beans, rice, onions and spices worked okay. They were very sticky, but they stayed together during cooking.
4 servings
1 tablespoon oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
6 oz Impossible beef
1 cup cooked black beans from dry
1/2 cup rice, cooked
1/2 head cabbage, chopped
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 can (14.5 ounces each) diced tomatoes
1 can (14 ounces) tomato sauce
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp light brown sugar
3 g Better than Bouillon (in 1/2 cup water if needed to thin)
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tsp. Colgin - Hickory Liquid Smoke
1 g MSG
Heat the Olive oil in a Big Skillet (use medium heat) Saute the onions until tender, and then add the ground beef (or turkey) until the meat is browned.
Add the garlic, cook an additional minute before adding the remaining ingredients.
Bring to a boil, cover, reduce the heat and simmer about 25 minutes (or until the cabbage is quite fork tender).
Add rice for last 5 minutes.
