The 2023-24 NHS Gymnastics team finished their season on Feb. 9. From a freshman to a senior, here’s how their season went.

Freshman Shannon Brent was super excited to be starting her freshman year on the gymnastics team.

“This is my first year doing gymnastics for Norwood High School as a freshman, and honestly I really like it. Everyone on the team is so nice,” she said.

“I like being a freshman on the team because I like looking up to the older girls and they are all just super, super friendly,” she said.

When it comes to her favorite event, Brent is not afraid of a challenge.

“Out of the four- vault, beam, barre, and floor, my favorite is definitely beam because I find it fun but at the same time challenging,” Brent said.

Before their final meet, Brent admitted the challenges their team faced but kept it positive.

“Our record is not the best right now, but the competition that we go against is a really good team, but for us, it's all about getting better and better,” she said.

For outgoing senior captain Lucy Scafati, her final year on the team was awesome.

Lucy has been part of the NHS gymnastics team ever since she was a freshman however Scafati has been doing gymnastics ever since she was six and has been loving it ever since.

“I started gymnastics when I was six, then I started doing competitive gymnastics when I was in elementary school, and now it has been a part of life for a while now,” she said

According to Scafati, when it comes to the team, it's never about winning, it's just about just improving each time they compete.

Scafati loves to have fun with her routine.

“I compete in three out of four of the events. I do barres, beam, and floor,” she said.

Lucy loves to express herself when competing.

“I like to do floor because I like that it can show my personality and [I can] have fun with it.”

Scafati is very fond and grateful for her coaches.

“My coaches are Karen Broderick and Christine Heenehan. They are both the best and I am so glad they are my coaches. Karen is my boss also because I work at Brodericks Gymnastics and Christine was Karen's coach, so it all works out perfectly,” she said.

Despite their final record, Scafati still had a great last season.

“ I love the girls. We are all so supportive and I am so excited,” she said.
