Get to know Special Education teacher Ms. Caitlin Nottebart.
What follows are excerpts from an interview done by staff writer Jack Mulvey:
She was inspired to actually become a teacher because of her own teachers:
“I think I had a few teachers in high school I really liked and really was able to connect with and that made me want to be able to help people.”
However, Ms. Nottebart divulges the fact that her first choice was not teaching.
“Originally, I wasn’t going to school to become a teacher. I was a political science major and I wanted to go into law school. Then I decided law school maybe wasn’t it and so I wanted to work in government I didn’t like that either.”
On what got her into teaching:
“...I was an aide in a severe classroom and I loved it and that really inspired me...just being able to help people... my mom was a nurse. I knew I wanted to do something to work with people. I didn’t want to sit at a desk all day long and crunch numbers."
What she loves most about her job:
“I really found a comfort level their working with students that needed help with their work or just needed a little pep talk before class. I have really fallen in love with that population of students”
