Mr. Goncalves: A True NHS Spirit

By Ryan Moran, Staff Writer

Mr. Goncalves is a unique teacher at Norwood high. Not only is he a new teacher, but he is also a part of Norwood high’s growing group of teacher alumnae.

When Mr. Goncalves graduated from Norwood High School he didn’t know where he wanted to do. “I believed that I was going to become an accountant or go into the business world. Once I got to college I realized this was not the path I wanted to choose” he said.

Mr. Goncalves decided to study teaching at UMass Amherst. Mr. Goncalves worked at Saint Catherine’s for a year, but after seeing that NHS had an opening he knew he wanted to work here.

He teaches Spanish, US History 2, and Math. He teaches all these classes happily alongside many of his former teachers.

Mr. Goncalves states, “At first it was a little bit awkward to talk to them and use their first names but now they're just co-workers and it’s nice to see everyone on a different level.”

This may only be his second year here at NHS, but after working beside his former teachers and seeing all the students he teaches every day, he is sure he wants to stay.
