On Sunday, May 23  the NHS student council ran their 7th annual Putting for Patients. Unlike last year's event, which took place in the NHS gym, this year's mini-golf course was set up outside on the tennis courts, and anyone going had to make a reservation.

Putting for Patients is a fundraiser where students and families can go mini golfing at NHS and the profits go to the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

“The Dana Farber Cancer Institute is one of the most prestigious cancer research institutes in the country and it's definitely local to us in Boston and the Jimmy Fund is their pediatric associate's group who does a lot of work with childhood cancer,” said Ms. Curtin, the Student Council advisor.

The Jimmy Fund came up with the idea for Putting for Patients and reaches out to schools around the state to see if they would be interested in participating.

According to Curtin, the turnout for the fundraiser was great. The Student Council was able to raise around $2,500 for the Jimmy Fund and had about 42 teams of 2-4 people each show up.

The students in the student council also put a lot of work into this fundraiser. The students advertised, sold tickets, made sure the course was set up, and made sure everything was going correctly.

“I really like how involved the kids get,” said Curtin.

Aside from the details that went into the event, there was an excellent turnout and lots of people had a great time.

“I really like how you get to hang out with friends and also have fun playing mini-golf,” junior Bryan Metayer said.

“I’ve been a part of the fundraiser for 3 years with the Student Council and my favorite part about this is the mini golf. I think everyone loves mini golf,” said senior Anthony Scavatto.

Michelle McCarthy who has come to the fundraiser a few times with her kids said “We came to the fundraiser years ago and I love that it is for such a great cause, and it brings families together. I also love that this year it is outside, it is a nice way to get out.”

Senior Maeve Glavin agreed. “ I love to play mini-golf and it’s even better because it is for a good cause,” she said.
