Layton Greene's album, "Tell Your Story."  /The Mustang Gazette

Singer Layton Greene brings an inspiring message with her debut album, “Tell Your Story.” Her new album takes listeners on a unique adventure through the highs and lows of her life. Greene has been through many trials and tribulations in her life and uses music as a way for her to put her story out there.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Layton said that she felt it was a positive step in her life for her to get her story out there: “All my life, I held all that in,” she commented about her past. She wants to “give a voice to those who can’t speak,” through her music.

After exploring the album, it was evident what makes Greene’s music stand out. The smooth R&B  rhythm of “Never Knew,” tells of new love, a promise to always be there for one another, no matter what. Following “Never New,” is “I love you,” which quickly changes the mood of the story, bringing about confusion and frustration with a love turned sour. The accompanying music video illustrates Layton’s deep and complex feelings after the relationship comes to an end. After seeing her ex with someone else, she feels betrayed. The promise they shared is now broken. “All these crazy thoughts I can’t get em’ out my head,” she sings.

The album ends with the powerful lyrics of “Open Wounds,” the song describing the aftermath of the split. The pain that she is still going through afterward come up in her lyrics, “Now my heart is broken, broken, you left me hanging, This is what I get for putting my trust in you, But I was hoping you really loved me.”

Although Greene has collaborated with other artists, this album is her first solo collection. For classic and modern R&B fans alike, Greene’s voice is sure to enchant you.  To explore the entirety of Greene’s album, you can find her music on YouTube, on her official channel, “Layton Greene”.
